Selfridges is a historic British brand known for its innovative approach to sustainability.
The department store’s ‘Buying Better, Inspiring Change’ strategy encourages team members, buyers and customers, to buy better and really make the world a more positive place.
The strategy encompasses a number of initiatives for recycling, upcycling and sustainable materials usage within their packaging and carry solutions.
One in particular focusses on tackling coffee cup waste, and Selfridges now collect all used cups from the 23 different retail store coffee outlets, along with those from their offices, to upcycle them into the store’s paper carrier bags. Introducing a completely closed-loop recycling solution.
The paper used to manufacture the iconic Selfridges yellow carrier bags now combines fibre from it’s own recycled coffee cups with wood pulp from sustainable forestry sources to create bags with the same colour and same durability, but with the CupCyclingTM logo on it that tells the story of the bags for customers.
The store’s luxury bags are made with FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified paper.
